Varied terrain across 5 peaks
Red Mountain Resort is known for having a varied and challenging terrain across the 5 peaks, including steep chutes, extensive tree skiing, powder-filled bowls and 360-degree descents off volcanic peaks. It provides a fantastic experience for all skiers with 110 marked runs, and Mount Kirkup offers access to untouched powder and a vertical drop of 2,054 feet via in-bounds cat-skiing. Like other resorts in British Columbia, it has a reputation for light, dry powder.
Red Mountain is a little bit more off the beaten track compared to some of the other resorts, but it is a 2 hour 15 minute drive from Naksup, so its a good warmup option for those heading on to CMH Kootenay.
Deep Powder and Deep History
Red Mountain is one of the oldest ski hills in North America, with a history dating back to the creation of the Red Mountain Ski Club (RMSC) in the first decade of the 1900s.
Both the resort and nearest town of Rossland have a great laid-back and friendly vibe, with a brilliant après-ski scene. The town itself, perched high in the Monashee Mountains, is steeped in rich history from its gold rush days but today is known for its welcoming locals, cosy cafés, craft breweries, and vibrant arts scene. In winter, Rossland transforms into a postcard-worthy alpine town with snow-lined streets, twinkling lights, and easy access to outdoor adventures beyond the ski slopes. From cross-country skiing and snowshoeing to exploring the forested trails or unwinding with live music at local pubs, Rossland offers the perfect blend of small-town charm and mountain adventure.
